The maker was Frank Abbott ( 1888-1977) of Saxons River Vermont. The husband of Margaret (1895-1974). Frank Abbott was the father of Frank L. Abbott(1916-1996) of Saxons River. Frank L. is famous for his work regarding the raising of azaleas. Research the book " Frank Abbott's Village of Azaleas". There is a ton of online info. I secured this chair from a Great Grandson to Mr Abbott senior. Mr Abbott was well known in Vermont as a craftsman and folk art creator. It is not marked.
The chair is made from mixed wood and painted black. It is pretty much symmetrical in a whimsical sort of way. He used pieces and parts and fashioned a unique and perhaps useful item. Folk art at it's purest. I am selling as a home decor vintage folk art piece that might simply be used as a novelty or display.
