Walnut Hill Farm raises heritage pigs on pasture, organic flowers, and non-gmo grain on 160 acres in Pawlet, Vermont. We strive to integrate farming practices that are sustainable, humane, and modern and to produce the highest quality products for our markets. We sell all of our farm products through local markets and NYC Greenmarkets.

Job Description
We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated person to join our farm team.

Qualifications
2-4 years experience working with farm animals, pigs preferred, and commitment to calm handling and Animal Welfare Approved (AWA) practices
Positive attitude and strong work ethic required
Strong communication skills required
Experience operating and maintaining tractors, implements, and other farm equipment required
Experience building temporary and permanent fence, and rough carpentry experience preferred
Bachelors degree preferred
Able to lift 50 pounds from the ground repeatedly
Wiilling to work at least one weekend day each week
Valid driver’s license required
Commitment to learning about a variety of practices in sustainable, regenerative agriculture

Responsibilities
Pig pasture management: the primary responsibility of this position is the maintenance and construction of five to ten acres of pig pasture through the growing season. This includes providing food and water daily, plus moving animals to fresh pasture at intervals, constructing permanent and temporary pasture fencing, building and repairing animal shelters as necessary.
Mowing, cultivating, and harvesting organic field crops: secondarily, tractor work and harvesting relating to field crops will be an important component of this position.
Barn oversight: Additionally, working with the farm managers and other staff to monitor sows, piglets, and maintain the open barnyard.
Logistics: Occasionally assisting with product pick-up or delivery logistics to or from our processors or markets.
