Set of six vintage stackable chrome steel rod sled base Steelcase chairs. Unusual form, with single stem holding up the seat back. Molded resin seats and backs. Versatile dining or conference chair that can go from the office to the home.
The Michigan-based furniture maker Steelcase has a long and distinguished history, but collectors focus on its works from the 1950s to the ’80s, when, along with such companies as Knoll and Herman Miller, the firm helped define the aesthetics of American mid-century modernism.
The Max Stacker was Steelcase’s answer to the 40/4 chair designed by David Rowland for archrival Knoll Furniture. Both Chairs are still widely popular and are currently in production today
