I am a autistic woman who is very disappointed in the lack of resources and awareness reguarding issues for autistic adults in our community. For me, and many other autistic teens and adults, One of the saddest things the lack of agency and respect offered to people on the spectrum as a part of the greater autistic community. The national organization known as the Autistic Self Advocacy Network believes rightly so, in the "Nothing about us, without us" motto as the most effective way to tackle the challenges of our neuro-diversity. There a barge many organizations that silence the voices of actual people who live with an autism spectrum disorder. If you are interested in helping change this, and you would be interested in finding out more about a community organization dedicated to advocacy on behalf of the autistic community, please send me an email.
I am trying to find out how much interest there would be in the state of Vermont for group that can meet and discuss challenges, support each other by connecting autistic adults to the parents of autistic children, learn the proper strategy in expressing one's needs to schools/work/and friends so they can be accommodated properly, challenging the existing ableism holding autistics back, and meeting with lawmakers to address the needs of the community, and more.
Please email me your name, # , location, and why you are interested in possibly participating in a advocacy group.
