After losing my elder dog a few years ago, I adopted this sweet boy as a rescue this past March as a puppy. He was pretty emaciated and it took two washes to get the smell of cigarette smoke out. He’s come a long way, is about 75lbs, and is very happy go lucky and not a mean spirited bone in his body.
I had hopes of integrating him into my household with three dog-friendly cats as I was told he was good with cats, but this has turned out false. Unfortunately, while he’s wonderful, he has a prey drive I have not been able to out-train and it’s making my indoor cats I’ve had for years miserable.
He’s healthy, just over a year old, and not yet neutered due to size and vet advisement. He is protective, but relaxes with his “people” very quickly. Knows his name well, knows several commands, and has impressive recall off-leash out in the woods or at my partner’s property. He would best thrive in a cat-free house or where the cats are indoor/outdoor. He has a couple dog friends and I think with proper introductions he’d do great with other dogs. He’s good with my tween child, and probably would be with littler kids, but is a bit of an oaf and often unaware of his size. He’s also crate-trained and generally prefers to take his meals in his crate.
Ideal home would be a large fenced yard or even more rural and spacious. While I live in a big house, it’s very much in town and not fenced, which has proven to be less of his jam than I’d hoped. My elder dog was very chill with this set up, so just very different.
He’s not terribly food motivated unless it’s pieces of meat or cheese, but is also usually eager to please, so training has been mostly okay.
Ideally you are experienced with dogs or are excited to learn and be about a high energy, fun-loving, and cuddly dog companion.
I have had many pets and have never rehomed someone before, so this is difficult for me.
I’m not in a rush as he deserves the best and I will be very discerning; as well as asking for a rehoming fee of $300…this will include his favorite toys, leash/lead/harness, poop bags, dog food he eats, treats, and his big crate.
If you’re interested, please don’t hesitate to reach out to start a conversation, let me know about you and your space. Happy to send photos, he’s a cutie.
