Electro-Voice Model 674 Dynamic Cardioid Microphone
The Jim Morrison Mic
The Electro-Voice Model 674 is a vintage dynamic cardioid microphone introduced in the 1960s. Designed primarily for broadcasting and public address systems, it is acoustically identical to the popular EV 676, but features a fixed floor-stand mount and pistol grip rather than a handheld design.
Dynamic, utilizing Electro-Voice's Continuously Variable-D (CV-D) design for a uniform cardioid polar pattern and feedback rejection. Same mic as the 676 with a different mount.
The EV 674 is highly regarded for its smooth, vintage broadcast tone and striking retro aesthetics (often remembered as the mic famously used by Jim Morrison of The Doors). Today, they are predominantly found on the used vintage market and are occasionally used in studios for recording vocals, brass, or guitar cabinets.
