The historic Bennington Mill, known locally as “The Big Mill”, was constructed in 1865 and sits beside the Walloomsac River in the beautiful downtown of Bennington, Vermont, surrounded by rolling hills with an idyllic New England feel.
Textile development began in Bennington on an industrial scale after the railroad arrived in the early 1850s, with the production of knitwear. In 1865 when the Bennington Mill was built, it was first used to produced paisley women's shawls, a product that turned out to not be popular. In 1875, the building was taken over by the Bennington Woolen Company, which produced material for overcoats. Its greatest period of growth for the mill followed the First World War, during which the facility produced large amounts of cloth for the war effort.
The Bennington Mill has become the home to many unique operating businesses including design and artist studios, manufacturing facilities, retail shops, photographers, fitness facilities, non-profits, and more. This is a very exciting environment in which to work, collaborate with other businesses, and location to explore.
