Yes, that's a lot of money for a tripod and yes it weighs a ton, but the Gitzo No 4 is the benchmark for studio/serious photo and video applications. Apparently the original 3-way pan/tilt heads are rare.
Modern versions of these Gitzo's sell for over $1000.
